The Forest of Life: Part 3

Aquafina and her crew were almost at the border. They were nearing in on it, but they wouldn’t be able to cross it just yet. They needed supplies. They had to stop in one of the smallest border towns in Aldold. It had only 60 people in the whole town. The three girls entered the village. People cleared a way for them upon seeing the royal crest on their shields. They stayed in a small tavern, but for the rest of the day went about trying to find the things they needed. They went to the gruff blacksmith for more knives. They went to the baker for bread, and the grocer for fruits. Then they went to the tailor.
As the guards entered the tailor’s shop, they looked surprised to see who was at the counter. A girl of about thirteen with flaming red hair was sitting behind the counter. No one in Aldold had red hair. The girl looked up. Her hair was wet. Her eyes were a brilliant blue.
“Aldold Legendary Tailors, how can I help you?” Said Altomia, sounding bored.
“We need tunics and leggings. All of them we need in black.” Responded Aquafina.
Altomia looked up from her book. She peered at the girls with a newfound curiousity.
“Are you all going into Emtolia? Don’t you know that it’s the witches hiding place? It’s home to all types of odd magical creatures.” After saying this, Altomia shuddered. She hated recite all this peasant nonsense (although there were a few witches in Emtolia), but otherwise they might become suspicious.
“I’m afraid our mission is classified information.” Aquafina said.
Altomia went back to her book, looking once again disinterested in the world around her. After reading a few pages she went into the back room to make the clothing the girls asked for. She came out with the things and Aquafina and the girls walked out. As Ampathia walked out, something dropped from the folds of her dress.
The girls walked out, paying it no mind. Altomia saw it. As soon as the girls were out of sight, Altomia flew to the door and knelt to pick whatever it was up. It was a folded piece of paper. She looked around before slowly opening it up. The paper was small, with delicate handwriting on it. It said.. what was that? Map? It said Map of Ellosberg and beneath that there was a drawing, clearly a map of a town. A town that Altomia was sure was the capitol of Emtolia. A big red X was drawn over the palace. Those girls were full-bred assassins. Altomia had to warn Emerando. His village might be the first on their list.
Altomia raced toward Emerando’s village. She stopped at the border, waiting for him. He met her there a few minutes later.
“You and Elmerita are in trouble. There are guards of the queen in my village and they are going into Emtolia. Your village might be the first stop on their quest to assassinate the Black Claw. Life as you know it may cease to exist!” Altomia blurted out.
“We need to run away.” Emerando said.
“Yes.” Replied Altomia, “There’s are many deserted forests in Aldold. We can take Elmerita there. My parents won’t even remember me! We can run away tomorrow for all I care! I can have all the supplies we need and we can raise Elmerita in the forest!”
“That’s perfect. Meet me here tomorrow at the break of dawn with the stuff. We’ll go that way.” Emerando gestured towards a few green hills covered in trees in the distance that stood proud inside the border of Aldold. Altomia nodded and ran off to gather things that she would bring.
Emerando headed toward his house, and entered it slowly. The floorboards creaked and awakened Elmerita, who started crying. Emerando immediately ran to her side and picked her up, placing her warm body against his, soothing her. She stopped crying. He bundled her up and carried her outside.
“See those hills over there?” Emerando said to her, pointing at the hills where Altomia had suggested they run away. “That’s where we’ll go tomorrow. We’ll leave this place forever, and never look back.”
Elmerita seemed to comprehend, and pointed to the hills.
